Original Book

Ahmed Ali

But when the unbelievers see you they make fun of you (and say): "Is this the one who mentions your gods (deridingly)?" Yet in Ar-Rahman they disbelieve!

Ali Ünal

When those who persistently disbelieve see you, they make you but a target of mockery, (saying to each other): "Is this the one who speaks against your deities?" (They cannot bear to hear their false deities denied.) And yet it is they themselves who deny the Book of the All-Merciful (Who has created them and embraces them with mercy, without recognizing this as a crime).

Amatul Rahman Omar

And when those who disbelieve see you, they hold you for a mere trifle (and say), `Is this the fellow who speaks (ill) of your gods?´ While it is they themselves who deny (disdainfully) the great Eminence of the Most Gracious (God).

Asad

But [thus it is:] whenever they who are bent on denying the truth consider thee, 46  they make thee but a target of their mockery, [saying to one another,] "Is this the one who speaks [so contemptuously] of your gods?" 47  And yet, it is they themselves who, at [every] mention of the Most Gracious, are wont to deny the truth! 48

Daryabadi

And when those who disbelieve behold thee they only take thee up for mockery: is this he who mentioneth your gods? while in the mention of the compassionate they are themselves blasphemers.

Faridul Haque

And when the disbelievers see you, they do not appoint you except as an object of mockery; "Is he the one who speaks ill of your Gods?"; whereas they deny the remembrance of the Most Gracious Himself!

Hamid S. Aziz

Every soul must taste of death. We will test you with evil and with good, as a trial; and unto Us will you be returned.

When the unbelievers see you they do not take you but for one to be scoffed at, saying: "Is this the one who talks against your gods?" And they themselves deny the mention of the Compassionate (Allah).

And when those who disbelieve behold thee, they but choose thee out for mockery, (saying): Is this he who maketh mention of your gods? And they would deny all mention of the Beneficent.

The Noble Koran

And when those who disbelieve (in the Oneness of Allah) see you (O Muhammad), they take you not except for mockery (saying): "Is this the one who talks (badly) about your gods?" While they disbelieve at the mention of the Most Beneficent (Allah). [Tafsir. Al-Qurtubi].

Yusuf Ali

When the Unbelievers see thee, they treat thee not except with ridicule. "Is this," (they say), "the one who talks of your gods?" and they blaspheme at the mention of (Allah) Most Gracious!
